Collective Worship
Collective worship at St Richard's CE Primary School reflects the Anglican traditions of the Church of England. It is offered as part of a wider opportunity for pupils and adults to encounter faith by engaging in conversations about God, both as individuals and together.
Collective worship is held daily in school and also at St Richard's Church, which is located next door.
Collective worship in our school is inclusive, invitational and inspiring.
- Inclusive: Worship is collective as it involves the school community meeting, exploring, questioning, and responding to each other and, for some, to God. It is fully accessible to all, including those of different faith backgrounds and no faith.
- Invitational: Worship allows the freedom of pupils and adults of Christian faith, other world faiths and of no religious faith to be present and engage as they wish. The metaphor of 'warm fires and open doors' captures this. The door is open and all are welcome to come in and sit as close to the fire as they feel comfortable. Pupils and adults will be invited to pray if they wish to do so and given the opportunity to pray or reflect in their own way.
- Inspiring: Worship will enable pupils and adults to ask big questions, motivate them into action, encourage them to think differently and to reflect on their own and the wider community's behaviour and actions. As a result, they will be inspired to become courageous advocates.
Collective worship at St Richard's will:
- Come together daily as a whole school community;
- Explore the school's Christian vision and values;
- Help pupils and adults develop understanding of the Christian faith in today's world through the teachings of Jesus and the Bible;
- Offer opportunities for pupils and adults to grow spiritually;
- Allow all pupils and adults to experience the traditions of Anglican worship eg music, silence, story, prayer and festivals;
- Explore the big questions of life and respond to national events;
- Enable pupils to engage in the planning, leading and evaluation of collection worship.
